Northwest Arlington ESL (NWAESL) was established in 2005 as a mission of Northwest Christian Church in Arlington, Texas, to help the language needs of the surrounding community. After quick and significant growth, in 2010 NWAESL became its own 501c3 and began offering programs beyond ESL. Today we offer adult ESL classes, citizenship classes, a WEE read program to help address kindergarten readiness, and a homework academy for our grade school students. We currently serve approximately 160 adult students who represent 17 different countries.

The mission of NWAESL is to build community through language. Our goal is to provide services in an unintimidating atmosphere where our students and their families feel comfortable learning. NWAESL is led by an eight-person board, an executive director, two coordinators, five additional staff, and several volunteers.

The International Language Institute brings over 55 years of experience teaching students from around the globe. Our school is within walking distance of Dupont Circle and Farragut North metro stations in downtown Washington, DC. We are also close to popular restaurants, coffee shops, banks, entertainment venues, and retail and shopping. Our facilities include 20 classrooms, 3 tutorial rooms, 1 computer room, and a student lounge. As part of the curriculum, we provide student activities and field trips so students can practice speaking and listening. Classes are led by native-speaking instructors and are held live in our classrooms or via Zoom online.
