Birkenhead is a town on the Wirral Peninsula on the west bank of the River Mersey. It sits just across from the city of Liverpool and is considered part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral in Merseyside. Students enrolled in English school in Birkenhead should be sure to spend some time in Birkenhead Park. It is acknowledged as the first publicly funded civic park in all of Britain. It is said that many of the features observed in the park were incorporated into New York City’s Central Park, after the landscape architect visited Birkenhead in 1850. Complete with a lake, café, beautiful landscaping, trails and more, the park is a beautiful place to spend some time. Hamilton Square is another interesting place to explore. The Georgian square is highlighted by the beautiful gardens located in the center. Students taking English courses in Birkenhead should be sure to check out the schedule at the Pacific Road Arts Centre. The facility offers a variety of performances throughout the year including both theater and music. The facility also hosts some of the events for the International Guitar Festival of Great Britain which is held each year during the month of November. Be sure to take the ferry across The Mersey to Liverpool. There, visitors will find a number of attractions relating to anything and everything having to do with The Beatles.
