Course description

Our Intensive Chinese Program is designed specifically to suit Western learners by separating spoken Mandarin from character recognition. This innovative teaching method is proven to accelerate the learning process and help students reach a conversational level quickly. Students on our Intensive Chinese Program are able to engage in basic conversation and recognize about 600 Chinese characters in only 3 months time.

Intensive Chinese Program features:
- 20 hours of group Chinese classes per week (or 10 hours per week of private lessons if there is no group available at your level)
- Free additional tutoring sessions
- Airport pick up on our arrival dates
- 2-3 cultural activities per week (e.g. tea ceremonies, taichi lessons, kung fu shows, trips to nearby water towns…)
- Visa assistance
- City Orientation and welcome pack
- Practical assistance and 24/7 support throughout your stay

Course levels:
Learners of all levels can join our Intensive Chinese Program, from beginners to advanced. Our classes are tailored to suit your level and your aims, so whether you're looking to pass a HSK exam or study business Chinese, we can help. Upon arriving at the school, our course advisor will give you a short level test and ask about your learning goals to find you a suitable class.

Hutong School was founded in 2005 and offers a wide range of Chinese training services in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Chengdu.

Hutong School's unique Chinese teaching method which separates spoken Chinese and character recognition, has been proven to expedite Chinese language learning. While progressing quicker in spoken Chinese, students also lay better foundations for character memorizing by understanding the logic of Chinese characters' construction.

Hutong School in Chengdu offers a wide range of Chinese language classes catered to your needs.
Whether you are a total beginner and looking to achieve a level that allows you to easily get by in Chengdu (such as ordering food, taking a taxi, talking to your neighbours, etc) or you want to perfect your Chinese language skills and even aim to pass the HSK 6 test, we've got you covered!

Take classes:
- Whenever you want: during the week, weekends, evenings and at lunchtime
- Wherever you want: at our school in Chengdu or at your home/office
- To prepare for the HSK

Our student accommodation is within walking distance of the school and Tongzilin metro station on line 1. The school is just 5 metro stops from the heart of Chengdu and the city's bustling Tianfu Square.

I thought the small group (two students) class was very helpful when learning. I felt using the HSK curriculum was very helpful in format. I enjoyed learning new vocabulary and seeing it in practice in dialogue form. This helped me to ask questions and better understand the sentence structure.

The location of the class was a bit far for me since I live an hour away by train.

Having lived in Chengdu for almost three years and taken language lessons on and off with many different teachers I was looking for something to put all the small pieces together. I needed a confidence boost to speak the language and re-ignite my desire to learn. Taking 40 hours of lessons in two weeks was intense, but so valuable. My teacher at Hutong explained things previous teachers could not and helped me make connections with my previous knowledge. These things gave me confidence that I knew more that I realized which motivated me to want to continue to learn more. Having learned from six different teachers and used multiple online language programs I can say without a doubt that my teacher at Hutong, Jonah, is by far the best language teacher I have ever had. I did not use Hutong housing since I already live in the city, the facilities were a bit far from me but very conveniently located near a metro station. I hope to be able to find more time in the future to continue classes.
