The city of Towson is located in the state of Maryland. The first people in the area were likely the Susquehannough people who were known to hunt in this region in the 1600s. The city was not settled until 1752 when two brothers from Pennsylvania, William and Thomas Towson, who moved to the area to farm. From these humble beginnings, the town grew to an important stopping point for farmers bringing livestock and produce to the port of Baltimore. Today the town is home to both Towson University, a public school and Goucher College, a small, private liberal arts school.
