More about studying in Jersey »
Although technically closer to France, this island is distinctly British and distinctly one-of-a-kind. Taking English courses in Jersey means getting familiar with the island banknotes and coins, a unique history and government, and namesake cows. It's also an offshore financial centre, a cultural mix of people and food, and a stunning landscape all rolled into one island of 118 sq. kilometers. As the local Norman-French language Jerriais is slowly dying out, you get to practice your language skills with the locals who now speak mostly English. Like most islands, Jersey has a beautiful coastline, complete with rugged cliffs and unspoiled sandy beaches. Slide into your beach chair and read a book, walk the winding trails along the oceanfront, or cycle tranquil country roads. There are plenty of lighthouses, farmlands and quiet coves to explore. History buffs can visit the Jersey War Tunnels, as well as the Military Museum housed in a former German bunker. Families will love the Durrell Wildlife Park, the Elizabeth and Mont Orgueil castles, and the plentiful gardens that dot the island landscape. The capital of the island, Saint Helier, offers all the amenities you need, from designer shopping and high-end jewelry to French bistros and nightly entertainment. Do not miss the Central Market, full of fresh Jersey produce, and Jersey Museum. Even while attending English school in Jersey, you're never too far from the mainland. There are frequent ferry rides and flights to France and England, and when you start to miss that sweet island life, trips back to Jersey are just as quick and easy.
