Famous for its cars, caves and Civil War landmarks, Bowling Green has found a way to make a name for itself, both locally and nationwide. Students taking English courses in Bowling Green can expect a strong dose of Dixie pride to accompany the development of their English skills. Bowling Green is the only place in the United States that manufactures Corvettes. See the step-by-step production of one of America's most popular sport cars by visiting the General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant. At the Corvette Museum, you can also see one-of-a-kind prototypes and rare blueprints of unmanufactured vehicles. Aside from its Corvettes, Bowling Green is also famous for its gigantic nature-made cavern. Take a ride on Kentucky's only underground boat tour at the Lost River Cave. On the tour, you'll see the 10,000-year-old structure that was once used as shelter by Native Americans and Civil War soldiers (and get to practice your English). Bowling Green was an important site during the Civil War. Though it tried to remain neutral, Bowling Green's location on the border between the North and South forced the city to develop itself into a military stronghold. Today, you can visit several important Civil War landmarks located around town. If you are looking for a more literal taste of the south, try the homemade ice cream at Chaney's Dairy or attend one of the free farm festivals at Jackson's Orchard. Attend an English school in Bowling Green to experience some Southern pride accompanied by the town's distinct local culture.
The American Explorer Program at ELS Language Centers is designed for students wishing to include some English lessons in their short stay. Students receive 15 weekly lessons of morning instruction, and will have the afternoon free to explore the surrounding area.
