"Wonderful place to learn Italian and experience the Roman culture!"

Vera Bratuz, student from Canada

My experience at Dilit was better than I had expected. The staff was super friendly and supportive, always ready to help with any questions that came up. The classes were truly immersive, in that we spoke Italian from the get go - using the method of listening, talking, reading, sharing. An excellent way to get an intuitive feel for the language. The teachers were genuinely caring and varied their teaching styles to make learning fun. The classes were small enough to get plenty of conversation time in. I especially liked meeting people from all over the world and of all ages. It definitely added to the experience for me.
The facilities were good as well, from the classrooms to the bar and dining area and of course, the outside patios. I miss the cappuccinos at the bar!! While I didn't take part in any of the organized activities Dilit offers, I did hear from friends that they were good. I chose Dilit from reading positive reviews about it as well as it's close proximity to Termini Station.
My housing situation was very very good. I was located within a 20 min walking distance to the school (which I had requested) and very much appreciated as the Rome metro system is crazy busy! My host was amazing - she went out of her way to make me feel at home and was always available to me when needed. She even helped me when I ended my stay with her and had to make my way back to the airport. I feel very fortunate to have gotten to stay with Nadia. Unfortunately i heard from others that not everyone had the same great experience with their homestay. I would suggest that hosts get screened regularly for their readiness to host.
An excellent experience overall!

Dilit was a great school to learn Italian! I was there for two weeks and I enjoyed every second of it. The classes were great and all the teachers were very welcoming. I would massively recommend visiting Dilit!

My accommodation was nice and close to the centre. My teacher Laura was very engaging and I felt that my Italian improved significantly. Dilit is a friendly and welcoming environment and the building offers a great cafe as well as the patio to relax outside.

"It was fun and challenging"

Nicola Thomas, student from New Zealand

Our teacher Susanna was outstanding. She had a varied group of people at various stages of knowledge. She managed us all very well. The facilities and the location were all good.
it was a shame we had to wear masks as it made understanding everyone more difficult.

"Well organized and helpful, sympathetic employees."

Marcella Süling, student from Germany

I liked: The house with terraces and the canteen were good;
the teachers competent and friendly; offering interesting tours.

I did not like: The Hotel „ Villa delle Rose“ was very dirty!
I did complain about this at school and they got in contact with the Hotel at once.

To book a course for ‚Beginners 50 plus‘ unfortunately made no sense for me:
Reasons:

The course started with 14 beginners in every age.
Most of them were very young and more familiar with grammar.

On the other hand only 6 persons started the program 50 plus;
5 of them were advanced and I am the only beginner.
Therefore I did understand only less within the excursions.

"A very good school for people who already have basic knowledge of Italian."

Marie-Christine Blais, student from Canada

Everything was far better than I expected: my teacher, the other students, the method used for learning, the atmosphere, the cafeteria, the building itself (with a terrace on the roof!), the commitment of all the staff, the after school... Thanks to DILIT, I also lived with a very nice lady.

This is not a school for absolute beginners, from what I saw (but it might be because there were very few of them in December and so they were integrated in groups more advanced), but it is perfect for people who have a basic knowledge - and more - of Italian. I really enjoyed my two weeks at DILIT and know that I made good progress, thanks to Gianna, my excellent teacher.

"This is really a school with excellent teachers that I prefer to all other ones"

Ellen Vollbrecht-Wedemann, student from Germany

The school has all the facilities necessary and most of the teachers are very committed. You can imagine that they like their jobs and the students coming to this school.
I also agree with their teaching methods making the students speak a lot in different groups.
So everybody has the chance of expressing him/herself as often as possible. In my opinion there could sometimes be more correcting on the side of the teachers.
The classrooms - to my mind - often were too small for 10 to 12 students. I was on level C with at last 12 students and we had to move to another house because of the number of students. I think the groups should be smaller.
I very much liked our small 50plus group. We were only 6 and we had really good extra curricular activities, such as a cooking course, some guided walks in Rome ,Pompeji and a wine cellar.
I lived with a lady whose flat was about 20 minutes away by bus. Walking to the place took me only 15 minutes. She was nice, but I saw her very seldom. That means that I couldn`t really speak Italian in my free time. This is a pity!

"Good school, passionate teachers, great city"

Nathalie Pennings, student from Netherlands

The school is very good, classes of around 10 people in the morning and small groups in the afternoon. The group consisted of people of all ages, nationalities, backgrounds but in class we were only allowed to speak Italian from day one. The teachers are great, the ones I met had been with the school for over 20 years, which I see as a good sign. They are knowledgeable, obviously like what they are doing and warm personalities. There were several activities, including a visit to the Villa Adriana, led by one of the teachers who majored in archeology and it was very nice.
I stayed with a nice host family in the Embassy area, which was 10 minutes walking distance from the school and next to a metro station, which I thought was perfect. Language International, the organization through which I booked, arranged everything well and quickly. I had a fabulous week in Rome, and would not hesitate to book again.

"An experience that gave me a lot more than expected."

Riitta Spåre, student from Finland

I did not know the Italian language was studied in so many countries and continents. Having students in the class of everywhere in the world was a wonderful surprise. We became good friends. The teachers were good and nice. The 50+ programs were interesting, especially the walks in Rome on different theme – I loved them. The after school program might have been the most comprehensive, with excursions, walks, and other things interesting. Here, you had the possibility to get to know people of different nationalities, and you would profit from the opportunity of being together.

The lessons were interesting for the majority. Sometimes, the theme changed fast. I wanted to go more deeply into a topic. Sometimes I had to wait a bit instead.

The resorts (the classrooms) were too small for our group. It was a surprise that we were so many, perhaps?

The family, in fact, had only a daughter. They were very nice.

I cannot think of anything to complain about.

Perhaps a curiosity. "LL school rules" treat accommodations a little strangely? The towels are not included. Should we have brought towels for two weeks from home?

I have already begun to make ads of this course.

"Fantastic"

Alessia Clores, student from UK

My experience was definitely something I will never forget. The classes were exciting and engaging, with something new to learn every day. However, the only negative aspect of the classes was that I felt I wasn't learning the tenses, as I hadn't studied them before, so it was harder to pick up - they weren't taught but I just had to know them. Apart from that, I enjoyed everything else! The location was perfect, the facilities were great, and so far, I have been enjoying the activities.

"Really fantastic."

Gert Hamacher, student from Denmark

I had two teachers, Antonella and Robeto. They were both very, very good. I liked the way they presented the material we worked with. It was often something to listen to, which was difficult and challenging, but by rehearing it and discussing it in Italian with fellow students we learned to understand what was going on and what was said. We learned how Italians express themselves in certain every day situations. I will be back!

I would like to add something to the ratings below.
I only attended one activity, which was about the Italian pronunciation. And that was very, very good.

"Absolutley the best experience of my life!"

Sara Lampret, student from Slovenia

The 3 months I spent in Rome were amazing. I loved the school. I had 3 teachers while going there and they were all very nice and fun. We actually loved going to school. The apartment I stayed in was great. It was located near the bus and metro station, near grocery store, a park, and a big shopping street. ;) The owner was great too. We stayed in touch even after I left. Overall, it was the best experience ever and I still miss it.

"Nice"

Juliana Olivares Oliveira, student from Brazil

Meet new people was very exciting! I learned Italian and was very cool. Because I speak Portuguese, it was a bit easier to understand some words. I could explore the language in my daily routine while I was there in Rome. The teacher was very nice, with a lot of games to teach us in an easier way. But in the first week, the students were a bit harder, so I enjoyed the second week better for sure! :) The location. I did not like much the location because was far away from the touristic points. In a walk distance, you can´t reach many interesting places.

"My best experience as an international student of language"

Ana Viviana Bolaños, student from Colombia

The biggest thing I liked about Dilit was the methodology. It is the first time that I am at an institute where you have to speak since the first class, but also during all class activities. I never was bored and teachers are so kind... It was surprising because when I arrived I did not speak Italian at all! Obviously, I was just for a short period but now I feel confident to speak at least a little and to continue studying Italian.

"One month in Rome"

Sofia Maniam, student from Australia

Classes - Overall I enjoyed the class. The size of the class was reasonable and the students and teachers were all lovely. However, I would say that more attention needs to be given to developing the lesson plan for beginner students. The school has a presumption that all students have at some point, prior to arriving, undertaken italian language training and learnt basic grammer rules. As it would appear, many students in my class had never taken Italian before Rome and struggled day to day in understanding what the teacher said about sentence construction and grammar rules. This needs to be addressed as many students were frustrationed and confused during their class, and felt like they could not progress further under these circumstances.

Teachers - all very professional and approachable.

Location - brillant location as it was very close to the main train station, Termini.

Facilities - the computers were outdated. New ones need to be brought in.

Activities - the activities were great. I particularly loved the passegiattes (Italian historical walks)

Housing - my apartment was not that far from the school, but I would have prefered to have been put in accommodation, somwhere in the city so that I could walk around and enjoy the sights of Rome a lot more.

The closest airport to the school is Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO).

The school offers airport pickup services. If you wish to be picked up, just give us your flight details and arrival date. The price of a one-way airport transfer from Rome Fiumicino Airport is 81 €. You must book your airport transfer in advance when you register.

Ask a question

"The student claims that she does not have a home mailing address where you can send her visa documents. Can you send her documents to the DHL office in Tripoli, Libya?"

Enrica Nizi, DILIT IH - Rome school representative

In this case, the best would be if she organized the pick-up with the DHL in Tripoli herself. She can pay the expenses and ask the DHL to pick up the documents at our address when we tell you that they are ready. Before sending the originals, we will send a scanned copy by email. I believe this is the safer solution.
Please note that we need to have received the full payment to be able to send visa documents. The Embassy requests a certificate on which we state that the full fees have been paid.

"The student is 63 years old. Is there a specific housing option you recommend for her? Or could you recommend a hotel or something similar close to the school where she may be more comfortable?"

Enrica Nizi, DILIT IH - Rome school representative

Considering her age, we would however suggest a host family standard plus or if she would like to be independent an "Italian host", meaning she would have a single room in an apartment to share with an Italian

"This student will need a visa, but is staying for a long time period. Is there any way you can make an exception for the payment so she can pay maybe one month or two upfront and then pay the rest in installments so that you can send out her visa supporting documents on time?"

Dyan Test, student from USA
Carlo Lipparini, Istituto Il David school representative

Since this student want to stay in Italy for more than 3 months, she need to obtain the study visa from the Italian embassy of her country.
For the Italian law (not for us), the students that need to obtain the visa, they have to pay the whole amount of the course, otherwise the Italian embassy will not give them the visa.

"Do you by any chance have another Istituto David in Torino by chance?"

Maria Davis, student from USA
Carlo Lipparini, Istituto Il David school representative

Our school is located in Florence and we don’t have contacts with a school in Torino.

"1. Is it possible for the student to book housing one month before her course starts with a possibility of prolonging it, if she likes it? She would like 36 weeks of the course in August, but 4 weeks of the course in July. 2. The student will need a visa, usually we require full funds from our students before the start of the course. Do you also require full funds, or is there a possibility that the student can pay a deposit in order to get the visa support documents and then pay the rest upon arrival at the school?"

Dyan Test, student from USA
Enrica Nizi, DILIT IH - Rome school representative

1. If I understand correctly she would like to start the course in August but requests an accommodation already 4 weeks earlier. July is high season and we would not be able to arrange an accommodation for 4 weeks without the course, as every room is needed. If we could, we would certainly like to help but please explain to the client that it is rather complicated, also because families do go on holidays in July or August.
2.The student will need to apply for a student visa and the Embassy requests that we state on the certificate that the full fees have been paid.

"What should the student do to apply for student visa?"

Enrica Nizi, DILIT IH - Rome school representative

If the student needs to apply for a visa, he should contact the Italian Embassy to get a precise information on what is requested. Usually we sent a certificate of enrolment once we have received the full payment of the course.
